Virtual Showjumping

So with most countries in lockdown and most shows across all disciplines cancelled, companies are introducing more online competing. Most people know of online dressage as its been running for years but with this lockdown comes online jumping too. There is a new Facebook page which is all about online Showjumping.

And it is called Virtual Showjumping.

All you need to do is set up a course at home either on grass on in an arena. There is no set number of fences, just make it creative. Put the jumps up to your height and just jump round and get someone to film you. Then email the video over and enter on their website. It is as easy as that and its only £8 to enter. The jumping is based on style and creativity of the course which is where the competition part comes in. There is even prize money.

They have also set up a competition for young horses where you could even win your own fillers!! This is such a good opportunity to school your young horses and enter in to a show where you can jump at home.

This is a great idea and something to help us all through the lockdown. It gives us all something a little different to do as well as keeping the competition vibe going. I really enjoyed taking part.

I have entered Didi into the 1.10m class and I’m going to go through exactly what I did.

So to start I used my phone and drew out as many course combinations I could, I then decided on which one would be the easiest to set up as well as which one would suit Didi and I. Once I arrived at the yard, I went to the arena to set up the course. We only have 5 pairs of wings which meant I had to be creative to make sure I can jump all the fences multiple times. I had 3 uprights and 1 oxer set up.

Once I had warmed up, I then jumped the course at 1m to practice and make any changes if need be. Then we put them up to 1.10m and jumped around that. I rode just like I would at a show or at home and got my mum to video from the middle of the arena.

Later on, I then went online, entered on the website and then emailed my video over. You just need to create an account on EquoEvents and then you can easily enter into your selected class.

That is how easy it is!

Have fun and give this a try.
